Obituary Michael A. Skuse, age 64, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 18, 2020 surrounded by his children. He was born and educated in Holyoke, son of the late Martin E. Skuse, Sr. and Ruth Skuse. Mike was a fun mischievous man with a twinkle in his eye and an infectious laugh. He adored his grandchildren, his family and connecting with people. He was generous with his time, knowledge and his heart. As a father, he worked hard and long to provide for his family, making sure to allow time for spontaneous family day trips and scouting adventures. He was heavily involved with BSA troop 670 for many years, always encouraging and sharing his knowledge with all that would listen. He volunteered for many years with the Vets for Kids Hike at the local American Legion, which benefited children throughout Holyoke and South Hadley. Mike was an avid car lover and owned his own local garage, Mike’s Midtown Tire and Auto Repair. After closing up shop, he moved onto William’s Auto Sales as well as many other endeavors. He was an extremely generous and caring soul. Often giving when he himself had nothing, whether it be time or material things, he did what he could for those around him. In recent years, despite declining health, he continued to work in various ways. As long as his hands were busy, he was truly happy. His eyes lit up a room and sparkled whenever he saw his grandchildren. He loved to get down on their level and connect with them whenever possible. He passed peacefully and on his own terms with calluses on his palms and grease under his nails, the same way he lived his life. Pops, as many people close to him called him, will be loved forever and thought of often. Mike is survived by a son Michael C. Skuse and his fiancée Melissa Riordan; two daughters, Carissa Skuse and her wife Kathryn and Shauna Skuse and her boyfriend James; two sisters, Ruth Woodard Skuse and Sheryl Bacon; a brother, Martin E. Skuse, Jr., his former spouse, Debra Lemieux, Mike’s longtime companion, Dawn Deitz and their son Zachary as well as many grandchildren, nieces and nephews and one great grandson. Besides his parents, Mike was predeceased by his beloved sister, Martha Skuse. All services are private. The Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
