Mary’s Obituary Maria “Mary” Gloria Marquez,64, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13th, 2020 in Amarillo, Texas. Viewing will be held at Horizon Funeral Home, 701 Elm Ave, Dalhart, Texas from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2020 and from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2020. Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, May 17, 2020 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 18, 2020 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with a graveside immediately following in Memorial Park Cemetery in Dalhart, Texas. For the safety of our community, Maria’s family, and funeral home staff – we will follow the COVID19 CDC guidelines: “Social Distancing” Viewing is restricted to no more than four people at any one time. If you are running a fever or are not feeling well…. please remain at home. Everyone is required to wear a mask upon entering the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church for services. Due to state mandates seating is limited and the family will be seated first if occupancy allows others may join the service. Services will be viewable here: Live Stream Video to allow family and friends to join from their homes as well. Mary was born Wednesday, March 7, 1956 in Uvalde, Texas to Ignacio and Imelda Castillo. She and her parents relocated to Dalhart, Texas where she later married Joe B. Marquez. Mary worked many years at Coon Memorial Hospital and retired in 2018. Mary loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She loved quilting, gardening, crafts, baking cakes, cookies and pies for all of her family and loved ones. Mary truly lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed giving a special hand-crafted gift to all members of her family during the course of her life. Mary was a genuine, loving and humble person who had a strong Catholic faith. Mary is survived by her husband, Joe B. Marquez of Dalhart, TX, her mother, Imelda Castillo, her three children; Aaron Castillo and Lavonda of Monte Vista, CO, Laurie Castillo of Dalhart, TX and Delilah “Lolly” and Darrell Martinez of Carlsbad, NM, as well as, four step-children; Carla Marquez, Rene and Lynn Fluhman, Jason Marquez and Angela Woolley, Desa and Cory Wadsworth all of Dalhart, TX, twenty-one grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Eight siblings; Victor Castillo and Toni of Liberal, KS, Jimmy Castillo of Houston, TX, Imelda and Ray Wheeler of Houston, TX, Jerry Castillo of Oklahoma City, OK, Martin Castillo and Joyce of Channing, TX, Joe Castillo and Veronica of Lovington, NM, Veronica and Junior Mariscal of Dalhart, TX, Abby Rivera and Elizabeth Serna of Houston, TX.
