September 7 1929 May 20 2020
Kathryn H. Flynn passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, in Tallahassee, Florida. Kay’s life exemplified the true joy only found through her faith in accepting Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She was devoted to her beloved husband, Leonard, and their three children. She and Leonard’s greatest legacy to their children was their love of family and the sharing of the love and grace of Jesus Christ. Active in Christian service most of her adult life, Kay taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, sang in the choir, was involved with the women’s mission group, and had many dear friends. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Kay’s lifetime “career” was her full-time devotion and care of her husband, twin daughters, and son. She enjoyed spending time with her family, hosting family dinners, church activities, reading, sewing, entertaining friends in her home, and decorating her home for the holidays. It was always special and fun to visit her home; her meals were delicious; she used “unique” serving bowls or plates for her delectable meals. Family vacations were highlights each year, and during retirement years, she and Leonard enjoyed traveling together throughout the US. Kay was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania, on September 7, 1929, to Oliver and Mabel Hastings. Prior to moving to St. Petersburg, Florida with her parents, she attended one year of college as a voice major. Soon after this move, Kay met the love of her life and, after a fairy tale courtship, married Leonard and shared life together for over 64 years before his death. Tallahassee became her home more than 50 years ago after Leonard accepted a career promotion. Kay is survived by her twin daughters, Linda Gross (Ray) and Debbie Hightower (Ed); and her son, Danny Flynn (Dianne). Kay was a loving grandmother to ten grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Kay was predeceased by her parents; sister, Jean DeMeglio; and niece Peggy Jean Simpson. The family thanks the professional and caring staff at Azalea Gardens Memory Care for their loving and personal care as well as the committed and loving care of Big Bend Hospice. A private family memorial is planned at Abbey Funeral Home, 4037 N. Monroe Street, Tallahassee, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Immanuel Baptist Church, 2351 Mahan Drive, Tallahassee, Florida 32308, or Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Boulevard, Tallahassee, Florida 32308.
