Obituary JoAnn Thornton, 67, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 5:50 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2020 at Evelyn’s House in Creve Coeur, Missouri. She was born October 28, 1952 in Granite City, a daughter of the late Jack and Lorena (Anderson) Thornton. She had retired as a lab technician after 27 years of dedicated service with the office of Dr. Roscan in Belleville. She was a member of Calvary Life Church in Granite City and enjoyed quilting with her friends. She cherished her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends. She is survived by five children, Jim Lewis of Troy, Steve Lewis of Madison, Carmon Lewis of St. Louis, Dawn Berry of Cape Fair, Missouri and Julie (Craig) Knight of Granite City; seven grandchildren, Chase, Abby, Dylan, Corey, Emily, Brittany and Sara; six great grandchildren, Jayla, Chandler, Triston, Scarlett, Landon and Mya; four brothers, Jim (Sharon) Thornton of Aurora, Missouri, Gerald Thornton of Aurora, Missouri, Chester Nicholls of Aurora, Missouri and Butch Thornton of California; two sisters, Pam Nicholls of Aurora, Missouri and Sue Thornton of Alton; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. JoAnn deserves a beautiful tribute. However during these uncertain times a private service will be held at Irwin Chapel in Granite City at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2020 with Reverend Mark Maynard officiating. This service can be watched through livestream on her tribute page on www.irwinchapel.com. Private burial will follow at St. John Cemetery on Maryville Road in Granite City.
