Janie Mae Wilson, daughter of the late Emma Wilson Moses and George M. Jefferson, was born on October 9, 1947, in Mayesville, South Carolina. She was reared by her great-grandparents, the late Jessie and Mattie Greene, and Clara Simien. She was married to the late Odell Kennedy. She departed this earthly life on April 19, 2020, at Harlem Hospital in New York City. Janie devoted her life of service to God, family and friends. She received her earliest Christian experiences at St. Rest Holiness Church in Mayesville, South Carolina. She later joined Prayer Temple Church in New York where she served as the general secretary for over thirty years. As one of the Founding members and a Pillar of the church, she was a part of many monumental moments in history. Janie was educated at Mayesville Elementary School, Mayesville, South Carolina, Westinghouse High School, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Eastern High School, Sumter, South Carolina in 1965. Upon her arrival to New York she was employed as a clerical worker for Petri Department Stores. She later joined Bell Atlantic (now Verizon) Telephone Company where she retired in 1999 after twenty-five years of service. She was also employed by H&R Block (Taxes) for approximately thirty-five years until her recent illness. Janie tirelessly and unselfishly supported her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, godchildren, family and friends. She loved traveling and was present at most occasions. Her presence was always welcome, recognized and appreciated. Her family and friends loved her “homemade lasagna” along with other dishes. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Latoya Wilson. She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory, Children: Gregory Wilson, Middletown, NY; Darron Wilson, Ellenville, NY; and Tanya (Darryl) Williams, Sumter, SC; Grandchildren: Patrice, Jalisa, Darien, Mercedes, Emma, Imani, Dashawn, Serenity, Janee and Keon; Great Grandchildren: Savion, Nathan, Lathan, Brooklyn, Morgan, Princeton, Promise, Peyton, Madison, Madison Rose, and Tyriq; A Loving and Special Aunt, Lillie Greene; Stepmother, Nancy Jefferson; Godchildren: Cheneir Rivers, Letitia Simien-Geter, Myesheia Cox-Flowers, Charisma Thornhill, Vidalena Guzman Husamudeen, Robert “RJ” Washington, Floyd Oliver, and Casandra Barnes; Siblings: James (Mamie) Wilson, Margaret Wilder, Audrey Moses, Ellison (Audrey) Moses, Jr., Cheryl Moses, Michael Moses, Phillip Moses, Marion Burgess, Shanna Jefferson, Julia (Eric) Haynes, Jessica Jefferson, Nancy (Odell) Williams, Jessie Washington, Julia Baxter-Carter, Brenda Williams, Denisha Mckinney; Best Friends, Rebecca Pollard and Bernice Pedroso; Aunts, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Classmates, Church Family and Many Friends.
