Obituary DURHAM: Jane Whitaker Sturdivant, 79, passed away due to the COVID-19 virus at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham. She was born in Durham, the daughter of the late Grover and Hazel Long Whitaker. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sturdivant was also predeceased by her husband, Grady Sturdivant; brothers, Norman Whitaker, Grover Whitaker, Jr., William Whitaker; and sisters, Ruby Rhew, Elsie Rigsbee. Mrs. Sturdivant was a member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Croft Business School in Durham. After faithful employment from 1969 until 2002, she was a retired relations banker with BB&T. Mrs. Sturdivant loved working in her rose garden, spending time with her family, especially enjoying family trips to the beach. Mrs. Sturdivant, is survived by her daughter, Terri Johnson Compton and husband Jim; brother, Ronald Whitaker; sisters, Valinda Walker, Dorothy Barksdale, Sue Murray; and granddaughter, Amber Compton. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to Rose of Sharon Baptist Church: 4109 Guess Rd., Durham, NC 27712.
