James’ Obituary Alton—James Walter Bornes, 52, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at his home. Born Aug. 8, 1967 in Alton, he was a son of Frank Lamar and Janice Joy (Stehlinger) Bornes. Jim retired from the U.S. Navy after over 22 years of service. He was a hull tech and towards the end of his service, he trained several other enlisted sailors. Survivors include his mother, Janice Bornes of Alton; siblings Frank “Bud” (Monica) Bornes of Alton, Kris (Derek) Green of Virginia, Kathleen Jane (Kirsten) Gray of Alton, and Karon (Frank) Esary of Brighton; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters, Sharon Jones and Frances Garrison. Jim will be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
