Jacob’s Obituary Jacob Astor Mitchell, of Flint, age 86, died Monday, May 11, 2020 at McLaren-Flint. Memorial Service to take place at a later date. Jacob was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina on March 30, 1934 to Johnnie Russell and AnnieBelle (Bennett) Mitchell. He graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1952 and continued his education by earning a Bachelor’s degree from Bob Jones University and a Master’s degree from Michigan State University. He also attended Kalamazoo Community College and received the National Defense Education Scholarship. Jacob married Corinne Clore on June 7, 1958. Throughout his career he was a teacher at Kearsley High School, Mott Adult High School, and Wilson Community College before retiring in 1987. He also owned and operated Mitchell’s Florist is Wilson, North Carolina. Jacob enjoyed participating in WWII re-enactments and researching family genealogy. Jacob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Corinne; children, Jennifer (Aaron) Balcom, Joel Mitchell, Jill (Jack) Barber, and Jane Sols; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and special cousin, Barbara Nell Campbell.
