She was born February 20, 1920 in Houston, TX to the late Juan Solis and Luisa Ramos Solis. She was preceded in death by her daughter Ruby Louise Smith, sisters Elvira Solis and Josephine Garza, and brothers John and Henry Solis. She is survived by her daughters; Mary McCurley of Paul’s Valley, OK, Helen and Dale Ward of Spring, TX, Carolyn and Patrick Oakes of Euless, TX, Lillian Solis Smith and Harvey Sanchez of Palacios, TX, and Judith and Valentin Chavez of Victoria, TX; sons John and Rene Smith and Dennis and Rita Smith of Palacios, TX. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 35 great-great grandchildren, 5 great-great-great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and friends. A longtime resident of Palacios and member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, she was a devout Catholic, with a strong belief in attending Mass and in the Sacraments. As a single parent, she was unselfish and always humble, putting her children and others before herself. She could always be heard saying, “God bless you and your family” and “I love you.” Among many things over the years, she helped as a “Pink Lady “, at Wagner General Hospital in Palacios, and in the early years worked for the Lowe’s Crab Processing Co., with her sisters. Always adventurous, Isabel loved to visit her family around the world and traveled to Europe visiting Rome, Germany, and Poland. She visited too many states to name in order to see her family. Her grandchildren would often see her off waving to her as she traveled alone by bus. Isabel was an avid reader, fostering a love for it with her children and grandchildren, and enjoyed walking. She loved to cook for her family, although, it was hard to get a recipe from her because she measured everything by eye. This past February 2020, she was honored by family and friends with a 100 Year Birthday Celebration, which was her goal. She would happily inform anyone that asked, of her intention to celebrate this achievement. A rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m., Monday June 1, 2020, at St Anthony’s Catholic Church, followed by a funeral service officiated by Rev. Fa. Dominic Nguyen at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Palacios Cemetery. Pallbearers are her grandchildren Keith McCurley, John Smith Jr., Steven Arrambide, Patrick Smith, Ron Chavez, and Dennis Smith Jr. Honorary Pallbearers are grandsons Brent Sainz, Marcel Smith, Matthew Chavez, Dionicio Luna Jr., and Stacy Arrambide. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends of Elder Citizens of Palacios and First Book Club of Palacios. She would have loved that.
