Obituary Frances “Fran” C. Hahn, 96, of Syracuse passed away peacefully on May 5, 2020. The daughter of Russell and Elsie Clayton of New Brunswick, NJ, her family moved to Syracuse in 1937 when Carrier relocated here. Fran graduated from Nottingham High School in 1942 and Syracuse University in 1946 with a Home Economics degree. In 1959, she started a nursery school program at Erwin First United Methodist Church which still operates today. To provide her children with a free college education, Fran started working at SU in 1962 as a supervisor for Residence and Dining Support Services (currently Facilities Services). A dedicated employee that loved her job and her staff, Fran retired in 1989 after 27 years. Fran was a loving and dedicated mother of four children that she raised on her own after her husband, Raymond Hahn, died in 1953. Three followed in her footsteps and graduated from SU: Raymond Jr. (Sheila) of Marcellus, Jeffrey (Joyce) of Cary, NC and Mona of Syracuse. Douglas (Susan) of Wilmington, NC graduated from Holy Cross. Fran was blessed to have seven grandchildren and loved spending time with them: Raymond III of Camillus, Christopher of Camillus, Lisa Lappano of Cicero, JP of Denver, CO, Megan of Greensboro, NC, Gregory of Clover, SC and Nicholas of Carolina Beach, NC. Fran was also blessed to have seven great-grandchildren. Fran was predeceased by her brother, Russell Clayton Jr.; and sister, Barbara Tonkin. Fran was a faithful member of Erwin Methodist Church since 1937, serving in many capacities. Forever Orange, she loved SU and helped plan and attended alumni reunions and events. A devoted SU fan, Fran was a season ticket holder for over 40 years. She was also an avid Yankee fan. The family especially thanks our sister Mona for her dedicated care of Mom over the last several years, providing much company and love. The family would also like to thank the staff of Kindred and Crouse Hospital for their loving care. A celebration of Fran’s life and interment in Woodlawn Cemetery will be held at a later date.
