Mrs. Elves Blackmon Ray, 96, of Lancaster passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at her home. She was born December 11, 1923 in Kershaw, a daughter of the late Hunter Blackmon and Bertha Couch Blackmon. Mrs. Ray was a long time member of Elgin Baptist Church, was a textile employee for many years and retired while at Springs Industries. A private service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Ray will be held Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Elgin Baptist Church with the Rev. Todd Rudisill officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park. Mrs. Ray is survived by a son, Richard W. Ray of Lancaster; two daughters, Brenda J. Perry of Rock Hill and Nancy R. Adams and her husband Bruce of Lancaster; a brother, Alva Blackmon and his wife Ann of Myrtle Beach; 7 grandchildren, Rachel, Sheila, Jason, Jamie, Chris, Jonathan, and Amanda; 13 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Ray; a son, Frankie Ray; a grandchild, Regina Ray; three brothers, Waddell Blackmon, Melvin Blackmon and Dan Blackmon; and six sisters, Polly Meetze, Marion Taylor, Julia Gainey, Marie Phillips, Ruth Shehane and Helen Phillips. Memorial contributions may be made to Elgin Baptist Church, 2302 Belmont Street, Lancaster, SC 29720. Lancaster Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the family of Mrs. Ray.
