Kowalczyk, 88, of Amsterdam, New York passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at his residence. He was born June 28, 1931 in Amsterdam, New York a son of the late Leo and Stanislawa “Julia” Kowalczyk. He was a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Kowalczyk proudly served in the Air Force enlisting in 1951. He was stationed in Miami, Florida and later in England as a Fireman on the crash crew for defusing the A-bomb. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1955. For 20 years, Dan worked at Fownes Brothers Glove Company as a Warper. He then worked for the General Electric Company in Schenectady, New York in Machine Repair for 30 years before retiring. Mr. Kowalczyk was a member of a classic car club – the “New Wave Cruisers”, the GE Quarter Century Club and was a former member of the Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department. On May 19, 1956 he was united in marriage to Veronica Varin who survives. He is also survived by his son Daniel W. Kowalczyk (Debbie), Fort Johnson, New York and daughter Marie A. Dopp (John), Amsterdam, new York; grandchildren Erica Novak (Andrew) and Melissa and Katie Dopp; great grandchildren Dylan and Aleksander, Marlee, Ruby and Piper Ann; brother Joseph Kowalczyk, Perth, New York; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, services are private for immediate family with burial at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, New York.
