Fennell, 97, of Sparks, Georgia, passed away at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta on May 28, 2020. She is the daughter of John and Stella Alford and was born in Loris, South Carolina on November 2, 1922. Her family moved to Sparks in the early 1920’s and she married Mervyn C. Fennell in Adel, Georgia on November 17, 1945. In 1948 they moved to Jacksonville, Florida and then returned to Sparks in 1980 where she was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church. She was a loving Mother, housewife, a proud homemaker and a caring and attentive caretaker to her husband in his later years. Throughout her life, if there was someone in the neighborhood needing assistance, she was always there to help. As the old saying goes “what goes around, comes around” was a befitting description of her life as she always helped others and then in her later years there were those who helped her and thus a good lesson for all of us. She loved to cook and share recipes along with life stories with family and friends. A special thanks and hugs go out to her many close friends and especially to Dolly, her “adopted” daughter Stephanie, James and Joan, Kay, both Judy’s, Jimmy and Louellen, the Gandy’s, Jackie and the fabulous nurses of Suncrest Home Nursing. She was preceded to Heaven by her husband, Mervyn Fennell; her son, David Fennell; her parents, John and Stella Alford; her sisters, Rosabell Crosby and Inez Wiley; and her brother, Levy Alford. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Rod and Gloria Fennell of Krugerville, Texas; a grandson and his wife, Jeff and Fiona Fennell; two great-granddaughters, Kaya and Vianne Fennell; and a step-granddaughter, Laura Ray and her family. A private funeral service for Mrs. Fennell will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2020 in the chapel of Boone Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Parker officiating. A graveside and committal service will take place at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at Riverside Memorial Park in Jacksonville, Florida, with Rev. Jimmy Parker officiating.
