He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and children, after a courageous two year battle with cancer. Chris was born May 4, 1954 in Denver, CO to Darrell Thomas Jones and Henreida “Rickey” Jones. He spent his childhood years in Hobbs, NM and later moved to Cushing, OK, where he graduated from High School in 1972. After completing the IBEW National Apprenticeship Program in 1984, Chris worked as a journeyman electrician out of Local 584 in Tulsa, OK. He also served 8 years as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy Reserves. Chris met his best friend and love of his life, Virginia Jackson, in Sand Springs, OK. They married on September 3, 1983 and had over 36 wonderful years together. They moved around the country in the early years, eventually settling on family land and building their home outside of Agra, OK. During their life together, they were blessed with two children and three grandchildren. In his younger years, Chris enjoyed riding back roads on his Yamaha dirt bike. He also had a passion and love for music, especially Rock and Blues. This passion for music included playing the guitar, which he loved sharing with his family. He was fascinated with languages, studying both Spanish and Welsh. His main focus in recent years was on Welsh, with the hopes of one day taking a trip to Wales. He also enjoyed woodworking and making folk art carvings. He loved nature and being outdoors, and was particularly fond of the mountains. At home, he spent countless hours on his tractor cutting walking trails and working on the land. His courage and strength came from an unwavering faith in God. Family was also very important to him. One of his greatest joys in life was being a Papa to his three grandkids and spending as much time as he could with them. He was such a kind and gentle man, whose stories and laughter will be forever with those who love him. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his wife Virginia; son Darrell Jones of Sand Springs, OK; daughter Alicia Wharry and husband Lynden of Mustang, OK; three grandchildren Peyton, Connor, and Bailey Wharry; brother Scott Jones and wife Sandy of Angel Fire, NM; sister Stephanie Theban and husband Ted of Tulsa, Ok; niece Lydia Drane and husband Josh; and niece Elizabeth Theban. He was preceded in death by his parents, Darrell and Rickey Jones. Due to current social distancing measures, his service will be postponed until a later date.
