Obituary Mr. Billy “Pops” Purvis, 81, of Swainsboro passed away May 29, 2020 at Pruitt Health of Swainsboro following an extended illness. Mr. Purvis was born October 22, 1938 in Wadley, GA. to the late Sam Purvis and Bonnie Roberts Purvis. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Tony Purvis; brothers, Marvin Purvis, Clark Purvis, Tanny Purvis, Sam Purvis, Jr. and Thomas Purvis; sister, Faye Goins. Mr. Purvis’s family was sharecroppers, he grew up working learning to be a man, at age 14 he got a job with the highway department paving roads in Augusta, GA. He loved his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his sons, Larry Purvis (Doris) of Wadley, Gary Purvis and Charles Purvis both of Swainsboro; sister, Willie Julie Tapley of Wrightsville; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial service will be private and at a later date.
