Betsey Roney September 27, 1976 – May 11, 2020 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Send Sympathy Card| Memorial Donation Betsey Lee Roney, 43, of Mandan, ND formerly of Oakes, ND, passed away at home on May 11, 2020. She was born on September 27, 1976 at Oakes to Julie Roney. She graduated from Oakes High School in 1995 and then attended North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton for architectural drafting. After her schooling, she worked for Mertz Lumber in Ellendale drafting construction plans for customers. Her jobs took her to different places before landing her perfect dream job when she went to work for ADM Benson Quinn in Hebron, ND as a grain merchandiser. Betsey was a hard worker, and she was known for lending an ear and clicking a glass with someone. She loved horse events and always looked forward to weekends filled with rodeos, barrel racing and horse shows. Betsey was very creative and enjoyed making crafts especially anything to do with western wear. She was also an excellent cook and baker and loved feeding and sharing her food with family and friends. To quote Betsey, “Badlands girl born and raised but Montana has my heart. My gypsy soul still hasn’t been tamed. There is always a wild side to an innocent face”. She is survived by her son, Marc Roney; her mom, Julie (John) Hollingsworth; sister, Alex (Dan) Burns; grandmother, Marlys Roney; and several uncles, aunts, cousins and of course her two dogs, Murphy & Lucy. Betsey was preceded in death by her grandpa Bob Roney and an uncle, LaRoy Chesley. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 18, 2020 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by a private Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Oakes followed by her burial at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery near Oakes. Betsey’s Funeral Mass will be live streamed for the public on her obituary page.
