Ann’s Obituary Ann Lou Briggs Huffman passed away peacefully with family by her side on April 25, 2020. Her parents, John and Fannie Hale, precede her in death along with her eight brothers and sisters and two loving husbands. Left to carry on her legacy are her sister, Jackie Johnson; son, Warren Briggs and his wife Debbie; daughter, Karen Stone and her husband Tommy; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and dear friends. On March 10, 1926, Ann was born in the quaint East Texas town of Kirbyville. Her parents would go on to have ten children total, with Ann being the third youngest of the bunch. Growing up on her father’s farm, Ann learned very quickly the value of toughness and hard work. Though the Hales lived by modest means, they never wanted for anything. There was always food on the table, a roof over their heads, and love in abundance amongst the family. Ann was raised by two devout Christian parents and went on to be unshakable in her own faith as an adult. Aside from day to day chores, she loved playing house with her siblings and had a great fondness for all of the animals on her father’s farm (her favorite being the family German Shepherd, Wolf). As a young adult, Ann moved to Washington, DC with her sisters, during World War II. Her time away from home instilled a great sense of adventure and independence in her (two traits she would value and embody for the rest of her life). After moving back to Galveston, Texas in the early 1950s, Ann would go on to meet her future husband, Oliver Briggs. Always referred to as the love of her life, Oliver and Ann were married in April of 1954. Several years later, the couple was blessed with their two children, Warren and Karen. In 1963, Ann’s grit and independence were tested when she tragically lost her husband at the young age of 39. Facing great adversity as a young widow and mother, Ann moved to Houston in hopes of finding new opportunities. With the help of her family, her inner strength, and her faith in the Lord, Ann overcame the obstacles. Sharing a great fondness for antiques, Ann and her sister Pat would eventually open up their own little antique shop, called “Culture and Clutter”. In the late 1970s, a new leading man would enter her life, Ben Huffman. In 1980, Ann and her “best friend” Ben were married and shared 26 wonderful years together, before Ben was called home to be with the Lord. Ann lived out the rest of her years, singing, dancing, and truly loving life. She loved to laugh and had an uncanny ability to charm anyone she came in contact with. Her vibrance and zest for life were infectious and her faith in God was inspiring to all. Overall, Ann was a beautiful person inside and out. She exuded love and happiness and brought out the best in everyone. Though Ann went on to her next great adventure in Heaven, a piece of her light will forever remain inside of us.
