William “Leroy” Wilcox, 65, of Adel, GA, left this earth on April 7, 2020.

Leroy came into this world a Warrior, born three months early on November 24, 1954, to the late Durham Leroy Wilcox and Lillian Dent Wilcox Benningfield.  He leaves behind his soulmate and wife of 46 years, Kathy Mitchell Wilcox; children: William “Billy” Leroy Wilcox, Jr. (Leann) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jeremy “Dusty” Wilcox (Becky) of Fort Valley, Georgia and Alyse Victoria Wilcox of Adel, Georgia; mother, Lillian Dent Wilcox Benningfield of Pitts, Georgia; siblings: Deborah Ann Wilcox Rountree (Danny) of Pitts, Georgia and “Little Durham” Leroy Wilcox (Viva) of Abbeville, Georgia; grandchildren Austin Gage Wilcox, Dolan Michael Wilcox, Anna Grace Wilcox, Jeremy Logan Wilcox and many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

He married the love of his life in 1974 and first settled in Fort Valley, Georgia to raise his family.  Leroy was never without a job, often working two or three jobs - spanning from building cabinets, handling all kinds of jobs for Dr. Bran, and working at Blue Bird Body Company in Fort Valley, GA to performing maintenance for Brannen Williams in Macon, GA and then for Phillip Morris in Charlotte, North Carolina, and finally as a self-employed truck driver back in his home State of Georgia.

Leroy was a hard-working, self-made man – who never failed to provide for his family and loved ones.   He put his heart, soul, sweat and tears into everything he did – with a smile that made others smile.  Leroy loved the outdoors, enjoying many hours hunting and fishing.  He never came across a stray animal he didn’t take home and instilled in his children that same compassion and responsibility.  Leroy would defend his loved ones at any cost, never backing down from what was right and just.

Graveside services were held at 3:00 PM on Friday, April 10, 2020 at the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Abbeville, Georgia, with Rev. Chuck Taylor officiating.  Ethan Rountree sang "Go Rest High on That Mountain" and "Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)."  Dusty Wilcox, Billy Wilcox, Durham Wilcox, Danny Rountree and Austin Wilcox served as pallbearers.  Boone Funeral Home of Adel has been entrusted with arrangements and Frazier and Son Funeral Home of Rochelle, Georgia assisted with the graveside service in Abbeville.
