“Willie” Wilfred’s Obituary Wilfred “Willie” F. Holmes of Tioga, TX passed away Thursday, February 6th, 2020 in Smithton, MO. His daughter, Vanessa (Nessa) and son-in-law Harold were at his side. Wilfred was born in Aubrey, Texas on August 13th, 1934. He was the son of Wilfred H. (Buck) and Nina Holmes. He married Opal Vernell Reeves (Nell) on November 21, 1952 in Denton, Tx at the Denton County Jail where Buck was a bailiff. Wilfred spent most of his working years as a diesel mechanic. Later in life, he worked for Peterbilt Motors and SPAN. Wilfred is survived by his daughters Vanessa Naugle and her husband, Harold of Smithton, Missouri and Tonie Holmes and Don Davidson of Tioga, Texas; son James “Booder” Holmes and Tim Hickey of Battle Creek, Michigan; grandchildren, Ciaira Naugle Cain and Tyrel Naugle of Missouri and Blake, Grant and Victoria Lawdermilk (Holmes) of Texas and Michael Salutz of Phoenix, Arizona; great-grandchildren, Alex and Ziva Cain, Larry, Izetta, Orrin and Gwynneth Naugle of Missouri, Mary and Jace Holmes, Mary and Charlotte Holmes and Axel, Kane and Baker Laudermilk all of Texas. Wilfred was an only child but had three very close “brother like” cousins, Scottie and Dwight Kirby and Richard Tribble. Wilfred was preceded in death by wife Nell Holmes, son Nemo Holmes and daughter-in-law, Rhonda Holmes and both parents Buck and Nina. Wilfred enjoyed spending time with friends and going to Ft. Richardson in Jacksboro, Tx with Gene and Marie Morrow and Charlie and Linda Arnold. Many nights were spent at rodeos with Dwight and Scottie Kirby, Richard Tribble and Bobbie Arrington (Conway). He enjoyed taking the teenagers horseback riding and to the rodeos. He knew how to have a good time despite not having money to do so. There were also many nights spent sitting around the dinner table with Raymond and Barbara Davis drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes and just “visiting.” Wilfred loved listening to music, especially old country music and Elvis. A celebration of life will be held at 6:00pm on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at Slay Memorial Funeral Center in Aubrey, TX officiated by Rev. Sam Redfearn and assisted by Jimmy Floyd Davis.
