Obituary William F. Hatchell, Jr., “Bill” to his friends and business associates, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Kitty Askins surrounded by his family. Services will be held on Monday, March 02, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at Shumate Faulk Funeral Home officiated by the Rev. Jim Willoughby. Committal services will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Bill was the oldest of eight children born to the late Thelma and William F. Hatchell, Sr. in Turkey, NC and graduated from Turkey High School in 1956. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country until 1959. After his service with the Navy, he moved to the Hampton/Newport News area of Virginia where he became employed with Newport News Shipbuilding. After moving back to N.C. in 1972 Bill ran Hatchell’s Used Cars until his retirement in 2015. Bill was a well-known Corvair enthusiast. Through the years, he owned and restored many of the rear-engine cars. He and his brother Ray spent many hours and miles on the roads hunting and scavaging parts for their many Corvairs. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Patricia “Pat” Hatchell; Daughter Wanda Coulter (Frank) of Clarksville, TN; daughter Sandra Eubanks (Randy) of Pikeville, NC and son William Douglas “Doug” Hatchell (Juli) of Severn, MD. Bill was blessed with 7 grandchildren, 4 step-grandsons, 2 step-grandaughters, 7 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren . He is also survived by his brother; Ray Hatchell (Chris) of Goldsboro, Sisters Judy Siokis and Barbara Jamison of Hampton, VA and Francis Brunson of Kinston, NC and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his sisters, Carolyn Pitchford and Jennifer Krause and his brother Durwood Hatchell.
