Walter W. Plautz, 65, of Merrill, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at St. Clare’s Hospital, Weston surrounded by his loving family. Wally was born October 21, 1954 in Merrill, son of the late William and Emma (Mohrland) Plautz. He married Nancy Iwen on May 27, 1978 in Merrill. She survives. Wally, now retired, was employed at C&H Packaging, Merrill. Wally honorably served in the U.S. Army for three years and was stationed in the DMZ in Korea. He then served for 18 years… in the Wisconsin Army National Guard. Wally was an active member of the Merrill V.F.W. Post 1638 and served with the Honor Guard at countless funerals. Wally, accompanied by two of his brothers, was able to go on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight in September of 2019. Wally enjoyed traveling, playing computer games, casino trips, spending time at the family cottage ‘up north’ and watching wildlife, Indy car races, and the Green Bay Packers. Wally is survived by his wife, Nancy Plautz, Merrill; four sisters, Nancy Simon, Appleton, Karen Plautz (Delbert Lunders), Merrill, Jean (Wayne) Altenburg, Iola, and Darlene (Ron) Ohlmann, Merrill; three brothers, James Plautz, John Plautz (Kara Tesky), and William Plautz (fiancé, Mandy Lepsch) all of Merrill; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. The funeral will begin at 11:00 AM Friday, February 28, 2020 at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. The Rev. Matthew Bless will officiate. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Village of Maine with graveside military rites conducted by the Merrill V.F.W. Post 1638 Honor Guard.
