A Burial Eucharist Service for Walter “Tim” Lanthrum, 71, of Tyler will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 3232 Jan Avenue, in Tyler, with Fr. Mitchell Tollett officiating. Tim passed away at home on Sunday, February 9, 2020, in Tyler. A reception for the family will be held from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall of the church. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetary in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Tim was born on October 8, 1948, in Oakdale, LA, the only child of the late Jessie Jack and Helen (Ethridge) Lanthrum. He grew up in Ft. Worth, TX, and graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1967. He joined the Marine Corps after graduation and served six years in the reserves. Tim spent many years in sales. He worked for Ralston Purina selling dog food in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and then in Nashville, TN. He returned to Texas, taking a sales job in Tyler with East Texas Cash Registers. He bought a Lawn Doctor franchise, and later started Chem Shrub, a tree and shrub chemical fertilization and pest service. His last entrepreneurial company was Cutters Equipment, a lawn equipment sales and service company. He had been retired for a number of years. Tim was an active member of the Jaycees in Nashville and Tyler. He served on the horticultural committee of the Smith County Extension Service, assisting with the Spring Gardening Conference. He also participated in chili cook-off competitions. Until his health deteriorated, Tim enjoyed shooting sports, especially target practice and IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation) competitions. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and working on the land he and his wife own near Bullard, TX. Tim is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carol (Timmons) Lanthrum; a daughter, Janelle; and a son, Clint, both of Tyler, as well as a few cousins. Pallbearers will be Steve Timmons; brother-in-law, Greg Majors; Tommy Butler; Wylie France; Peter Kohler; and Kevin DeOrnellas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50 Memphis, TN. 38101-9929; Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607, or the Rector’s Discretionary Fund of St. Francis Episcopal Church, 3232 Jan Ave., Tyler, TX 75701. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler, TX.
