Viola Mae (Wheeler) Banes, 75, of Holden, MO, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 3, 1944 near Quincy, MO, the daughter of Ralph and Ida Mae (Bruton) Wheeler, who preceded her in death. On November 16, 1963 she married Bob Banes, her loving husband of 56 years, at the Holden United Methodist Church in Holden, MO. Vi earned her Bachelors in Education in 1979 and in 1990 completed her Masters in Library Science, both from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO. She was an Art Teacher and Librarian for the Holden School District where she retired. She was a member of the Holden United Methodist Church. Vi enjoyed family, gardening, sewing, painting, pottery, art and genealogy. She is survived by her husband, Bob Banes of the home; one son, Keith Banes (Federal Way, WA); one daughter, Beverly Carlson and husband, Carl (Oak Grove, MO); one sister, Barb Gudde and husband, Daryl; granddaughters Katelin Banes, Ashlyn Carlson and Sophie Fluckiger, her Swiss granddaughter. She is also survived by two brothers, Charles Wheeler and Kenneth Wheeler. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of Campbell – Cast Funeral Home. At Vi’s request – Funeral Services will be respectfully held in private. Services entrusted to Campbell-Cast Funeral Home, Holden, MO.
