Teresa Janet Cates, 76, of Judsonia and formerly of Russell, died Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Unity Health in Searcy. Teresa was born March 23, 1943 in Roosevelt, Arkansas a daughter of the late Edgar and Ester Lu Blanton. She attended school in Pleasant Plains. On September 2, 1960 Teresa married the love of her life, R.D. Cates and soon started their own family. She was a devoted wife and mother. She is survived by her five children, Cynthia (Doug) Devorak of Judsonia, Vera Warr of Augusta, James (Elonda) Cates of Augusta, Lavonna (Dewayne) Curry of South Carolina and Sherry (Stacey) Turner of Judsonia; four brothers, Marvin, Harvey, Finis and Ralph; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, R.D. Cates; five sisters; nine brothers and two granddaughters, Brittany Curry and Andrea Cooper. Visitation will be on Sunday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home. Services will be conducted Monday, February 10, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Denmark Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Carter Cemetery in Russell. Arrangements are entrusted to Powell Funeral Home, Bald Knob – Judsonia. www.powellfuneralhome.net.
