Shirley’s Obituary Shirley Ann Knight Smith, 93, of Rockford passed away 12:05 a.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Northwoods Care Center, Belvidere. Born April 12, 1926, the daughter of Sheldon A. and Nina (Atkinson) Knight, married Paul D. Smith on October 25, 1969. 1944 High School graduate of West High School. Retired from formerly Illinois Water Treatment. Shirley was 83 year member of First Baptist Church, Rockford where she enjoyed singing in various groups and serving her Savior in many ways, in the community but especially at church. She was previously married to Lemuel E. Bartholomee for 18 years. Survived by daughter Barbara Bartholomee of Rockford, step-daughters Lori (Richard) Matthews, Decatur, AL, Denise (Randy) Good, of Rockford and step-son Tom (Amy) Smith of Stavors, MD, 2 grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, friends. Predeceased by parents, husband, son David Bartholomee, brothers Sheldon Jr., Robert, and Eugene Knight, and infant sister Harriett. Funeral service will held at 11 am, at First Baptist Church, 5304 Charles Street, Rockford Saturday February 29, 2020, with Pastor David Huffstutler officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 prior to the service at the church. Burial – Willwood Burial Cemetery Arrangements by Julian Poorman Welte Funeral Home Special thanks to Hospice Care of America, Northwoods Care Center, Belvidere, OSF palliative care and Cherry Valley EMS.
