Davis, Sr. and Mattie Holden-Young, was born July 22, 1959 at home in Victory Park (Gouldtown) New Jersey. She departed this life peaceable on Monday, February 17, 2020 surrounded by her brothers Pastor Tony A. Davis, Sr., Dr. Gust D. Davis, Jr., and her surrogate sister/cousin Rose Mary James. Shirlene was a native of Bridgeton and attended Fairfield Township/Bridgeton Public Schools. She also attended Cumberland County Community College, York Technical College, Associate of Applied Science Degree in South Carolina, Jamison Bible Institute, PA, Vineland Board of Education Adult Education Program receiving her Substitute Teachers Credentials, Literacy Volunteer of America, Inc. (LVA) receiving her Basic Reading Tutor Training Credentials, received her License Student Development Service through the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education of the State of South Carolina, received her Notary License from the State of New Jersey, along with numerous other Certificates, Citations and awards. Shirlene was the founder of Holding On Ministries, along with her popular weekly radio broadcast “Holding On Ministries Live” which played throughout the Country. She was part of the Black Preachers Network and Radio Personality-Motivational Speakers Forum. She also was a Recording Artist/Song-writer and Author of twenty-five (25) various Books, Journals and Publications. She was Executive CEO of Royal Teas of Kenya in Africa. She served as a Counselor for Heritage Village U.S.A., in Fort Mill, SC in the early 90’s. She was also the Founder/President of the Mattie Holden Young Merit Award present at Bridgeton Senior High School to assist students from low-income families. Shirlene was employed by Elwyn NJ; located in Vineland as a Group Home Program Coordinator Manager. As an Evangelist her pulpit extended to Conferences, Workshops, Revivals, Book Signings and Foreign Missions Work. Her diverse background included working as a Residential Coordinator/House Mother for Unwed mothers and Recovering Addicts. She had a passion to see souls Saved, Healed, Delivered and Restored, which was birthed when God completely delivered her from an illness. As a result of that miracle she allowed the gifts in her life to bring Glory to the Redemptive Healing Work of Jesus Christ and His unconditional love. Shirlene strived to for Excellence, being open, truly submitted to the move of God and His power in this season. She was truly a Servant of God and was in Ministry for twenty (20) years. She was highly regarded Teacher of the Word of God and the Secular world in Education. She was a member of her brother’s church, Friendship Baptist Church located on the corner of Gershal/Garden Road, Brotmanville, New Jersey under the leader of Pastor Tony A. Davis, Sr. In addition to her parents she was pre-deceased by her sisters: Ellen Ruby L. Davis-Ware-Williams, Betty F. Davis-Chavies-Grant, Monica D. Palmer- Mattson and Augusta Davis, her brothers Sgt. Thomas Edward (Peanut) and Timmy Lee Young (Tee). Shirlene touched many lives with a positive touch that will live on in our memories. Shirlene leaves to mourn her legacy of love her dear son Chad Armin Smith, her pride and joy her grandson Avoince Smith both South Carolina; one sister Marlene Kay Davis, of Camden; three brothers Eddie Lee Stubbs, Bridgeton, Pastor Tony A. Davis, Sr., Vineland; and Dr. Gust D. Davis, Jr.; her three Aunts Ms. Eva Holden, New Church, VA, Ms. Emma Davis, Laurelton, NY, Donna (Clarence) Clark; one Uncle Eugene (Dora) Higgins and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her to best life long friends Aloha Smith Oatman, Pamela Wilkerson, Theresa Stubbs-Rahming and Jean Kelly-Brantley; her godsons Benjamin and David Mattson, Jr.; and Kevin V. Chase.
