Obituary Shayne Clair Smith June 29, 1972- February 10, 2020 Shayne was born on June 29, 1972 in Ogden Utah to Barry Lynn and Andree Beyson Smith. He graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1990. He was blessed with his daughter Meggen born from his first marriage. On September 13, 1997 he married his best friend and love of his life Robin. This combination led to Shayne being known as the Dark Knight. Together they were Batman and Robin. They had more in common with the crime fighters than just a name, they were partners. That partnership welcomed 2 sons into the world, first Ryan in December of 2001, and later Conner came in September 2005. In total, the “Batman and Robin” team were together in this life for 25 years. On their wedding day, they spent the day dealing with the events of that day to the point they couldn’t find time to eat. After that long day they decided to have dinner at The Timberline Restaurant before heading south to their hotel in Salt Lake City Utah. Almost every anniversary was relieving that first married meal together at The Timberline. Shayne loved his family. To him family was everything. His wife was his best friend. They enjoyed long chats in the evening in their backyard on a swing, while their boys played, or sipping coffee together on a Sunday morning. He often said, “I am sure my daughter Meggen loves Robin more than me, but who doesn’t? Haha.” Shayne grew up around tools. His father taught him about cars and tools from a young age. That led to his career in the automotive industry after graduating from high school. He worked for Sears Automotive, O’Reilly Auto Parts, and PepBoys. Like Batman, Shayne was a kid who loved toys, and shared that love of toys with everyone he knew. Automotive tools were the first toys he played with as an adult aged boy. He was known to help many of his friends and family fix their cars. He also loved tech in all forms. He didn’t just want you to like his tech gadgets, he learned your interests and found tech that fit those interests. Most recently his oldest son showed interest in cooking. Shayne loved seeing Ryan learn how to cook. Shayne’s mother was French and instilled a love of “the best food” on him at a young age. When his son started that vocation, Shayne researched knives, thermometers, and a multitude of things his son would need. Shayne also was amazed at how well his youngest son understood electronics and the internet. He bragged about his family often. Growing up with a French mother, Shayne loved simple and delicious food. If he made his own meal, there was a good chance it was brie, salami, and some cracker or bread. One of his only complaints about his Robin was she made food he loved. He couldn’t lose weight eating her food, as one small serving wasn’t possible for him. He enjoyed watching his oldest son learn techniques for cooking. Batman leaves behind his Robin, his daughter with her husband Kyle, and 2 grandkids, his 2 sons, other family, and more friends than can be counted. A Memorial Gathering will be held Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 6 to 8 pm at Aaron’s Mortuary, 496 24th St, Ogden, Utah. To send flowers to Shayne’s family, please visit our floral section.
