Richard’s Obituary Richard Alan Meyers, 66, of Atwood died at 6:32 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Carle Hospital in Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 7, 2020 at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, with Rev. Bruce Weiman officiating. Burial will follow in the Arcola Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friday. Richard was born October 21, 1953 in Cherry Point Naval Air Station Hospital in N. Carolina, the son of Lyman Perry and Lorna Maye Shewhart Meyers, Jr. Survivors include his mother, Lorna Meyers of Lovington; brother, Michel Meyers of Arthur; 2 nieces, Emily Meyers and husband Scott Annis; and Mallory (Joe) Washburn all of San Tan Valley, Arizona; 2 great nieces, Magdalene Washburn and Adaline Annis; and uncle, Harry (Wilma) Shewhart of Cerro Gordo. He graduated from Arthur High School in 1972 and attended Bradley University. Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was an electronic technician. After his enlistment, having earned his license as a broadcast engineer while serving in the Navy, Richard worked as a radio/TV broadcast engineer. He later worked at the Bath Iron Works Shipyard in Maine for several years. He was a member of the Arthur United Methodist Church.
