Nancy Janet Bowman, age 76, of Unicoi, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Cornerstone Village in Johnson City. A native of Johnson City, Nancy is a daughter of the late Lawrence Mack and Cleo Mae (Lacy) Peoples. She is a founding member of Redeeming Grace Free Will Baptist Church. Nancy was a devoted Christian, mother and grandmother, known as “Granny Jan”, as well as an avid Lady Vols Basketball fan. She enjoyed gardening and was the best cook! In addition to her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by: her son, Adrian Lawrence Bowman; brother, Larry Lee Peoples; and former husband, Hilbert Dean Bowman. Nancy Janet Bowman leaves behind to cherish her memory: Daughter: Elesha Lambert and husband, Doug; Son: Theron Bowman and wife, Shu Pin “Winnie”; Sister: Kay Strain and husband, David; Brother: Shane Peoples and wife, Karen; Grandchildren: Heather Fox and husband, Derek, Chelsey Bowman; Great-grandchildren: Brailee Porter, Colton Fox, Alivia Fox; Nieces: Angela Harris, Erika Perez and husband, Colton; Nephew: Aaron Stout; Sister-in-law: Mary Peoples; Special dog: Bobo; Special friend: Janice Honeycutt. The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff of Cornerstone Village in Johnson City for their loving care during this difficult time. The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Nancy Janet Bowman in a funeral service to be held at 4:00 pm, Saturday, February 8, 2020 in in chapel at Valley Funeral Home. Pastor Charles David Byrd will officiate. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 8, 2020 and will continue until service time in the chapel at Valley Funeral Home. A graveside committal service will held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 9, 2020 in Roselawn Cemetery. Those attending will meet at the cemetery by 1:50 pm on Sunday, February 9, 2020, for the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Nancy’s name to Erwin First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1600 N Main Avenue, Erwin, TN 37650 Condolences and memories may be shared with the family and viewed at www.valleyfuneralhome.net
