She attended St. Monica’s grade school, Messmer High School, and Mount Mary College (now University). Her first vocation was as a teacher in Nuremberg, West Germany, Long Beach, California, and then back in her home of Milwaukee, where she met her future husband Attorney James P. Brennan at a Green Bay Packer game. They raised their four children, and helped raise their grandchildren in their home on Santa Monica Boulevard in Whitefish Bay. Mary enjoyed skiing, including for many years taking annual trips to Colorado. She and Jim and their children took many vacations “up north” at Star Lake, Wisconsin. She volunteered many hours with the Christ Child Society, the St. Francis Children’s Center, and at St. Monica’s. Mary will be remembered for her deep Catholic faith, her selflessness, and her many lasting friendships which she nurtured even to the end. For decades Mary bore without complaint the pain of rheumatoid arthritis, accepting her suffering and offering it up in union with Christ’s Passion. Burial will be alongside her husband Jim in the Star Lake Cemetery during the summer of 2020.
