Kenneth G. Kraase, age 92, died February 1, 2020 at his residence surrounded by family. He was born on August 29, 1927 in Royal Oak to George and Gladys (nee Benson) and was a lifelong area resident. Ken married June Schima on June 26, 1948 in Royal Oak. Theirs was a true love story, spanning 71 years of marriage and the loving kindness they showed for one another throughout the years. The couple made their home in Oak Park, living in the house that Ken did some of the construction on, since 1951. Family was a high priority to Ken and he loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and enjoyed his role as “Uncle Kenny” to many nieces and nephews. He was always there for anyone who needed him. Ken and June hosted pool parties during the summer months and holiday gatherings throughout the years. Their home was truly the hub of family togetherness. Ken’s interests included gardening, deer hunting in Hubbard Lake, feeding the birds, playing cards, Scrabble, traveling to Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore and going to Florida in the winter months. He will most be remembered for his famous “Papa Waffles,” which often included strawberries and cool whip or pecans and honey. He would grace these delicacies on his adoring grandchildren, great grandchildren and sometimes lucky friends, neighbors and delivery people! Beloved husband of June. Loving father of Deborah (James) Major, Denise (Martin) Hill, Rebecca (Brian) Smith and Tracie (the late Steven) Nickles. Proud grandfather of ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Dear brother of Sandra (the late Richard) Ruttan, Gerald Kraase, the late Charles (the late Joyce) Kraase, Ethel (the late William) Larsen, Eleanor (the late John) Schroff and Shirley (Mike, still living) Joyce. Uncle Kenny will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. Visitation Thursday 2-8 pm. Funeral Friday 11 am at Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Home, 705 W. 11 Mile Rd.
