Obituary Bridgeport ~ Karen Ann McDonald, 68, went to be with our Lord Thursday, February 27, 2020 in Bridgeport. Service will be at a later date. Karen was born on March 7, 1951 to Wayne R. and Jeanne (Carter) McDonald Sr. She retired as an X-ray Technician. Karen lived in many places, including – Flint, Michigan; Buffalo, New York; Denver, Colorado; Oakland, California; and Gulfport, Florida. She loved to travel and never met a stranger. Karen made life-long friends wherever she went and always kept in touch. She loved to read and always had a book with her. Karen had a great spirit and “loved” her spirits! She always had a joke to tell. Karen had a kind word about everyone. She loved kids but never wanted her own. In the end she laughed that she wasn’t going to have to deal with the up-coming election. Karen’s last love was her beloved dog, Bear. She is preceded in death by her mother, Jeanne, and her father Wayne McDonald Sr. and his wife Virginia; her sister, Phyllis McDonald; and her nephew, Andrew McDonald. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her brothers, Carter and wife Kathy, Don and Beth McDonald; her sister, Mary Lewandowski and husband Vic; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends. Thanks to all the friends and family that came to visit and sent cards and prayers. Special thanks to Dot and Darren for their love and support. UPRIGHT HILDA By Donald Hutter Hilda Cholokowski said, “Only fools stand on their head. Only fools enjoy such tumble,” Hilda Cholokowski grumbled, She was a girl so neatly dressed, So self-assured and self-possessed, She never once was mussed or messed. Hilda Cholokowski grew Into a woman fair to view. Fastidious in every way, She still did not approve of play. She found a man as pinched as she And married him quite sensibly, And bore him children, one, two, three. And to her children Hilda said, “Only fools stand on their head. Only fools enjoy such tumble,” And then her chest began to rumble. They diagnosed it as the flu, But then the complications grew Until she died, at half-past two. Hilda Cholokowski’s end Drew little grief from any friend – For if in life one cannot gladden, Then in death one cannot sadden, Her husband, thinking of the fee, Bought a plot just three-by-three And buried Hilda vertically. Now Hilda Cholokowski lies Where no one laughs and no one cries, Where rest five hundred silent dead, With only Hilda on her head.
