Obituary Candler – Joyce “Peck” Stamey, 87, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Reuben and Rhetta Young Stamey. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Blaylock Stamey, who died in 2017; a son, Gary Lee Stamey and an infant son, Larry Ray Stamey; three brothers and three sisters. He was a United States Army veteran serving as a Paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. Peck enjoyed his hunting, fishing and after his retirement tending his garden. He is survived by a daughter, Sue Burford of Tyler, Texas; three sons, Randy Stamey, Greg Stamey and John Stamey all of Candler; a sister, Brownie Flynn of Candler; two stepdaughters, Donna White and Regina Smith both of Clyde; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Ridgeway Baptist Church with the Reverend Jack W. Collins officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Ridgeway Baptist Church, 525 Old US 19/23 Hwy, Candler, NC 28715.
