Obituary Joyce Marie (Rowell) Sehested, died in the wee hours of February 25, 2020. She resided in a skilled nursing facility in Asheville, N.C. Prior to that she lived with her son, Ken Sehested and spouse Nancy Hastings Sehested, in Asheville. And before that, with her daughter, Glenda J. Sehested, in Sioux Falls, S.D. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Glen, her daughter Glenda, and all of her siblings—June, Jerry, and Wilma—along with her parents, G.O. and Viola Rowell. She was the last of the senior class on both sides of her clan. She is survived by her son Ken and daughter-in-law Nancy; two grandchildren, Jessica and Alayna; four great grandchildren: Jordan, Sydney, Rebecca, and Jonathan; plus numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Joyce was born November 8, 1928, near the little town of Bray, Okla., north of Marlow in Stephens County, where her husband Glen was born. She was a graduate of Bray (Okla.) High School and named to the Oklahoma all-state girls’ basketball squad, then played one season of semi-pro women’s basketball. She married Glen Sehested in 1947. After her children Glenda and Ken were born she worked as a church secretary, then later as an accountant, first in Snyder, Tx., then in Houma, La. Though she had not lived in Houma, La., since 2005, she maintained contact with members of her women’s Sunday school class at First Baptist Church, Houma. Beginning in 2013, she was a member of Circle of Mercy Congregation in Asheville, N.C., attending faithfully until her health prevented it. All her beloved bless her name.
