Obituary Short Gap, WV- Janet L. Pyles, 86, of Short Gap, died Friday, January 31, 2020 at her home. Born December 24, 1933 in Patterson Creek, WV, she was the daughter of the late Walter Thomas Lechliter and Anna Elizabeth (Simpkus) Lechliter. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard Pyles; six brothers, Joseph, Bill, Samuel, Johnny, Jim, and Philip Lechliter, and five sisters, Virginia McIntosh, Cecelia Brady, Rosie Divelbiss, Opal Whitacre, and Georgia Eaton. Her only surviving sister is Anthona Cox, in Springfield, MO, along with many nieces and nephews. At the age of nine, Janet came to live with her sister Opal and Jennings Whitacre in Short Gap, WV. Although Opal and Jennings are now deceased, their family: Judy Westfall and husband Bobby Joe, Wallace Whitacre and wife Roxy, and Roger Whitacre and wife Marilyn and their families consider her as one of their own family. They have treated her with loving care, and have been very helpful over the years. Janet graduated from Fort Ashby High School, Class of 1951. She married Richard Pyles on March 7, 1952. Janet was employed by the Federal Government in Washington, D.C. for 37 years, 6 months, and 2 days. Janet was a member of the New Day Baptist Church, Ladies of the Moose, Chapter 914; McKinley Chapter #12, O.E.S; Re Temple #118, D.O.N.; and Ladies Auxiliary of Fort Ashby Post #6667, V.F.W. At Janet’s request, there will be no services. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Day Baptist Church, P.O. Box 628, Fort Ashby, WV 26719.
