Born April 3, 1963 in Bethesda, MD, he was the son of the late James McCracken Gilfillan and Nancy Jane Whitman Gilfillan. He worked for the Montgomery County Government, Heavy Equipment Division in Gaithersburg, MD, where he was an ASC certified mechanic. Jim loved cooking, cruising with family, astronomy, boating on the Chesapeake Bay and in South Carolina and riding his Goldwing motorcycle. He was also an amateur pilot. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth G. Hulse and husband, Thomas of Seneca, SC, his beloved German Shepherd, Cisco, numerous cousins and a great circle of friends. In addition to his parents, Nancy and James “Mack’ Gilfillan, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Smith Gilfillan. A time for visiting and remembering Jim will be held from 1:00 -3:00 pm on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at North Bethesda United Methodist Church, Fellowship Hall, 10100 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda, MD 20814.
