He was born October 6, 1925 in Temple, Texas to Victor and Annie Maude King. He married Frances Kelso on April 10, 1954. Vic served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946 and was trained as a bombardier on the B-17 Flying Fortress. He later attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in geology. He began working as an oil field geologist logging wells in Texas and the southwestern United States. After marrying Fran in 1954, they continued to travel until they settled in Fort Worth to be near family. Aside from short periods of time in Corpus Christi and San Antonio, they lived in Fort Worth and raised their three children there until they moved to Comfort in 1977. Vic continued to work as a petroleum geologist until he retired, then served two terms as Kendall County Commissioner for Precinct 4. He was involved in politics his entire life, actively participating in Republican Party activities and events in addition to serving as Precinct Chairman. In addition to politics, Vic was also active in the community. He was a member of the Comfort Chamber of Commerce, the Comfort Heritage Foundation, and served on the Kendall County appraisal review board. He was also a member of several professional organizations including the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the Gulf Coast Association of Geological Societies. He enjoyed participating in more light-hearted endeavors as well. He was a member and officer of the Hill Country Racquet Club, and always looked forward to catching up at the monthly “meetings”. In addition, he performed in several productions put on by the Comfort Theater and was active for many years in the annual Comfort Little Theater variety show. Vic valued his relationships with family and friends above all else. He moved to Austin to be near family, and loved the extra time he was able to spend with his children and grandchildren over the last two years. He made many new friends when he moved to Austin, but always cherished his many dear friends in Comfort. He continued to keep up with the happenings in Comfort through the Comfort News, and always considered Comfort his home. Although he will be missed by all, we are grateful that he is finally reunited with his beloved wife, Fran. Vic is survived by his three children and spouses, Kelso and Valerie King of Austin, Lucy King of Portland, Oregon and Nobuyuki Ushiro of Sapporo, Japan, and Victoria and Abhijit Modak of Austin, three grandsons, Shinya Ushiro, Nikhil Modak, and Sachin Modak, and his brother and spouse, Burton and Lee King of Durham, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his two sisters, Katherine Lewis and Ann Morris.
