Helena’s Obituary Helena Griffing, 49, of Coal Grove, Ohio passed away Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Kings Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky. Helena was born February 13, 1970 in Portsmouth, Ohio; a daughter to the late O.J. Owns and Joyce Ann White. She was proceeded in death by her granddaughter Kylee Griffing and is survived by her husband David Lee Griffing, whom she married on August 27, 1986. Helena was in the class of 1988 at South Point High School. She was a homemaker and a member of Open Word Ministry Church in South Point. In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children daughter: Vickie (Howard) Newcomb of Indiana; son: David (Stacy) Griffing Jr. Of Ironton, Ohio; Son: Aaron (Megan) Hanshaw of Ironton, Ohio; Son: Michael Unrue of Kitts Hill, Ohio; Daughter: Patricia Owens of Ironton, Ohio; step-mother: Carol Jean Owns; Grandaughters: Aubree Griffing and Jennavecia Friend; Grandsons: Kaius Griffing, Jordan Newcomb, and Jensen Hanshaw. Also, she leaves behind her granddaughter “Punky” who held a special place in her heart. Also, great-grandson Jacob Newcomb Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 South Seventh Street, Ironton, Ohio with Pastor Frank Donnelly officiating. Burial will follow in Crank Cemetery at 2099 County Road 120, South Point, OH. Visitation will be Tuesday 11:00 A.M until the time of the service at the funeral home. Open Word Ministry Church will host a dinner directly following the burial at 2630 County Road 144, South Point, Ohio.
