Guy “Bud”‘s Obituary Guy “Bud” George Weeks, age 73 of Stanwood, passed away February 6, 2020, at his home. He was born April 10, 1946, in Morley, the son of Guy Elmer and Ethel (Loader) Weeks. Bud was a 1964 graduate from Morley-Stanwood High School. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and was proud to receive the rank of Eagle Scout. Guy served his country honorably during the Vietnam War with the United States Army Special Forces, the Green Beret. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant as he toured 23 countries with the Army. During this time, Guy married Nancy Hess on May 20, 1967, in Stanwood where they raised their family. Following his career in the military, Guy achieved his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Ferris State University. He then was employed as an electrician with various companies, including IBEW and Kent Power. Bud served on the Morley-Stanwood School Board for 28 years and on the Fire Department for the Village of Stanwood. He was also a Little League Baseball Coach in the community. Bud was a man of many talents who enjoyed tinkering from morning until night. He and Nancy owned and operated Croton Bait Shop and Guy’s Sporting Goods in Stanwood where he sold and repaired chainsaws and guns and rented cross country skis. Bud was a logger and woodworker. He made many crafts and memorial benches to sell at fairs and festivals. Bud was able to continue this hobby up until the last six months when his health began to fail. He also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and hunting. Bud loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy Weeks of Stanwood; six children, Guy “Eric” (Tami Oman) Weeks of New York, Melanie (John) Nichols of Stanwood, Valerie Weeks of Florida, Tammy Weeks of Grand Rapids, Tobias “Toby” Weeks of Grand Rapids, and Tasha (Mike Troupe) Weeks of Morley; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Johnson of Wyoming, Michigan; special friend, Tom Linn; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Todd, two brothers-in-law Roger Johnson and Dale Hess. Funeral services will take place at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2020 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, February 8 at the Funeral Home. A luncheon will be prepared at The Woods Free Methodist Church in Stanwood.
