Obituary Gregory Leroy Smith, 62, of Leicester, North Carolina, died February 1, 2020, at his home. Greg was born April 16, 1957, to Catherine Belle Guthrie and Leroy Archibald Smith in Williamston, South Carolina. He earned an associate degree in electric engineering, then both a bachelor and a master of education degree. Greg served as an engineer in the air force, and also in the reserves. He was later a teacher of special education. Greg was also an avid chess player, and was always reading about science. Greg was preceded in death by his parents, and by his wife, Valerie Smith. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Smith-Finlay, and his son-in-law, Alexander Finlay, of Leicester, North Carolina. Greg’s family will hold a memorial service in his honor at a later date.
