GILBERT’s Obituary Gilbert Edward Stoner, 94, passed away on the 26th of January, 2020. He was born July 8, 1925 in Platte City, Missouri, the son of John Nelson Stoner and Mable Claire (Wilcox). He was preceded in death by his parents and all eight of his older siblings: Lucile, Gordon, Paul, Ralph, Ruth, Helen, Bonnie and Erma. By 1940, the Stoner family had moved from Missouri to California where they took up residence in San Gabriel. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, Gilbert joined the Navy on July 7, 1943, age 17, and was stationed at the U.S. Sub Base at Pearl Harbor, serving as a Mailman Third Class USNR. He was honorably discharged on February 8, 1946, at the U.S. Naval Base T.I. San Pedro, CA, earning the Victory Medal WWII, American Area and Asiatic-Pacific. Gilbert married Ida Mae Hyte on June 15, 1946, in San Gabriel, California. He was a house painter in the construction trades for many years, a profession he excelled at and took great pride in. The family lived for many years in Riverside, first on Bingham Street in La Sierra and then on Anacapa before retirement took them for two years in San Marcos, and finally, the past two years in Yucaipa. He is survived by his wife Ida Mae; daughters: Kathleen Mae Campbell (Vince), Karen Jean Steadham (Richard) and Jennifer Lavonne Eliseo (Carl); grandchildren: Adrienne Brower, Andrea Campbell, Alisa Campbell, Arika Campbell, Chris Campbell, Zack Campbell, Nick Campbell, Taylor Steadham, Erin Steadham, Nathan Steadham, Jessica Hunsanger, Katie Ticer, Elizabeth Johnson; and numerous great-grandchildren.
