Obituary Gary Dean Noakes, 83, of Findlay, Ohio, and formerly of Carterville, passed peacefully on Wednesday morning, February 26, 2020, in Findlay, Ohio. Gary is survived by his wife, Greta Noakes of Findlay, Ohio; his children, Melody Nesler (Dave) of Findlay, Ohio, Dina Swain (Larry) of Charleston, South Carolina, Kent Elders of Jersey City, New Jersey, Bradley Noakes (Mark Johnson) of Denton, Texas, Bryan Noakes (Dianne) of Thornton, Colorado, Brenda Farley (Dale) of Paducah, Kentucky, Betty Black of Carterville, Illinois, and daughter-in-law, Teresa Noakes of DuQuoin, Illinois; grandchildren, Blaine Wells, Brandon Wells, Chloe Nesler, Tori Swain, Brennon Swain, Chris Farley, Russell Farley, Ross LeQuatte, Morgan LeQuatte, Jillian Minor, Lindsay Rawls, Austin Black, Olivia Noakes, Tiffany Baldi, Christy Williams, Emily Noakes and Cody Ellermeyer; 26 great-grandchildren; siblings, P.D. Noakes (Pat) of Marion, Illinois, Bill Noakes (Ruth Ann) of Waynesville, Missouri, and Phil Noakes (Cathy) of Findlay, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Barry Noakes. Gary was born on July 22, 1936, in Carterville, Illinois, to Mae (Fozzard) and Lloyd Noakes. He graduated from Carterville High School in 1954. He married Greta Hundley in 1968. After moving to Findlay, Ohio, in 1970, Gary worked various sales jobs before obtaining his Ohio Real Estate license in 1975. Gary worked at Susko and Gray before he and Greta opened Noakes and Associates Real Estate from their home at 865 S. Main Street in 1980. Their daughter Melody joined the company in 1990 and grandson Blaine joined in 2003. Gary and Greta owned and operated the brokerage until retirement. Gary was an Emeritus Member of the National Association of REALTORS, a member of Ohio REALTORS, and the Heartland Board of Realtors until his retirement from real estate in 2016. Gary was a member of Findlay Country Club and loved to play golf. He was a 3-time club champion and was always willing to assist anyone with a golf tip when needed. He taught the game to many of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and helped foster their love for the sport. Gary was an avid fisherman and loved spending time on the water. He and his three brothers took an annual fishing trip to Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee for many years. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, February 29, 2020, at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home in Findlay, Ohio, with a private family service to immediately follow.
