Fukuko Hopkins, age 92, of Royal Oak, passed away on February 18, 2020 surrounded by family. Fukuko was born in Japan to the late Kiku and Kikuyoshi Fukuoka and the eldest of seven children. She moved to the United States in 1954 and eventually settled in Detroit, Michigan. Being a skilled seamstress, she began her career as the caretaker of the staff uniforms at Deaconess Hospital. She later transitioned to a dietitian, a position she kept until she retired. As a retiree, she enjoyed an independent and vibrant life. This included many extended trips to Japan to visit family, as well as taking on several volunteer responsibilities at the Barton Tower Co-op. In her free time she enjoyed cooking, playing games with others, jigsaw puzzles and spending quality time with her growing family. She was a natural “green thumb” and always kept an amazing collection of plants and flowers that made her happy. We will remember her as a beautiful and strong woman who had a loving, giving, kind and wholesome soul. Loving mother of Joe Hopkins. Beloved grandmother of Tameko (Paul) Krueger, Joseph Hopkins, William (Rachel) Hopkins Jr., and Sarah Hopkins. Cherished great-grandmother of Lauren Krueger, Jacob Krueger, Alex Hopkins, Ethan Hopkins, and Max Hopkins. Memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital are appreciated.
