Obituary SWARTOUT, Ernest K. Age 94 of Appleridge in Horseheads, NY. He was born December 20, 1925 in Danby, NY, the only child of Walter and Alice (Yaple) Swartout and passed away Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Bethany Manor. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Phyllis and son Bob. Ernie is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Janine & Jimmy Golub of Cazenovia, NY with their children Natalie (Bobby) Tulsiani of San Francisco, CA with their children Ellis & Charlie Tulsiani and Ginger (Peter Mburu) Golub of Nairobi, Kenya with their daughter Willa Mburu; son Don Swartout of St. Petersburg, FL with his son Sean Swartout of Tampa, FL; Bob’s daughter Robin (Rodney) McWhorten with their children Alexis & Preston McWhorter all of Gunnersville, AL, Steve Swartout of Largo, FL. Ernie grew up in Danby, NY, retired from the USPS in Ithaca after 37 years as a mail carrier. He was a combat veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII. He lost a kidney due to an injury suffered during combat; was held captive and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He will be laid to rest, with is wife, in Woodlawn National Cemetery where he will receive military funeral honors. To send flowers to Ernest’s family, please visit our floral section.
