Edward’s Obituary Edward H. Schwartz, age 78, passed away February 20, 2020, his 33rd wedding anniversary, surrounded by his loving wife and children. Ed was born in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Albert and Etta Schwartz on April 16, 1941. Always looking for adventure, as a young man he hunted on horseback in Alberta, Canada, and Montana. He visited more than 30 countries, leading backpacking trips through Europe and Scandinavia. While visiting Israel, he was involved in an archaeological dig after attending classes at Tel Aviv University. He started his college education at Tri-C and finished at The University of Akron, where he was a graduate teaching assistant of geography and history and taught outdoor education. He opened Camp & Trail Hutte, an outfitting store, in Akron, Ohio, where he sold equipment and taught classes for cross country skiing, back packing, canoeing, camping, hiking, rock climbing, rappelling, spelunking, and other outdoor fun. Because of his knowledge and expertise of the outdoors, he became a special friend of the FBI. He was involved in activities as a mountain man, setting up his tee pee for hunting camp and relished stepping back in time to enjoy a slice of life in a more primitive era. He spent time in Cloudy, Oklahoma as a real cowboy, helping his close friends with roundups and spring brandings. He later opened Thermal Aire Technologies in Medina, Ohio. His greatest pride and joy was his family, wife Jeanne, daughter Shaina, and son Steven. As he often said, the only real miracles he witnessed were the births of his children. He provided a home that accommodated many outdoor sports and activities that not just entertained his family and friends but educated them as well. He was Chief Windsinger for the Mandan and Cree Tribes of Indian Guides and Princesses, to which his daughter and son belonged. Some of his favorite things to do were hosting family and friends with pig roasts, bonfires and parties. He also enjoyed celebrating at the Thirsty Cowboy where he would study ‘geometry’ (shapes) with his friend Don Penny. Ed made friends wherever he went. He accumulated so much knowledge about so many subjects that he could strike up a conversation with almost everyone about almost anything. Ed was part of the Patriot Guard, escorting on his motorcycle, more than 30 fallen veterans to their final resting place. He was also a member of Rolling Thunder and Pride for Veterans. Ed was a veteran of the US Coast Guard. He was also a member of the South Cuyahoga Sportsman’s Club. He leaves a gaping hole in the lives of his life partner and wife, Jeanne, (Elseser, Smith) who he began dating in 1979 and married in 1987; his loving daughter Shaina, and his devoted son Steven. Also missing him is his brother and sister-in-law Harvey & Ellen Schwartz and his niece and nephews Michelle & Steve Rothenberg, Seth Schwartz, and the Bogart family. He also leaves behind the Elseser’s and Sarbaugh’s in Canton, OH and nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Ruth & Ray Bogart, and his father and mother-in-law, Sylvester (Lefty) & Stella Elseser. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 29 at Waite & Son, 765 N. Court St. Medina, OH, Noon to 4:00 with a memorial service at 4:15. Luncheon to follow in Waite Community Room. The family will sit Shiva on Sunday, March 1, 1pm to 7pm and Monday, March 2, 3pm to 8pm to which all family and friends are invited to visit at the Schwartz home in Medina.
