Dale F. Nelson Sr., 71, of Burke, a hero to all who knew him, passed away Monday, February 24, 2020 at his home. Born on January 10, 1949 in Plattsburgh, New York, he was the son of Thomas and Marion (Roberts) Nelson. He was married to Diane Boileau on April 7, 1971 and together they raised two children. Dale enlisted in the United States Army in 1968, serving in Vietnam and was wounded in combat. He was honorably discharged in 1970. He graduated from Chateaugay Central School. He worked as a milk tester in his earlier years then began driving truck. At the end of his career, he owned and operated Nelson and Son Transport with his son, Dale. Dale was a jack of all trades, he was a carpenter, electrician, and welder. He loved his animals and was an avid outdoorsman in his younger years. Dale was a veteran and a hero. He was a truck driver, a neighbor, friend, dog lover, a son, brother, father, uncle and grandpa. He was a Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Cancer Survivor and a brave man. He was so many things to so many people, as he always will be. Dale lives on through his family. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Diane; his two children, Cherisse Burdash of North Bangor, Dale Nelson Jr. and his wife, Paula of Burke; four grandchildren, Haley Burdash and Zachary Nelson both of North Bangor, Natasha Nelson of Burke, Mason LaValley of Plattsburgh; a great-grandson, Maverick Hunt; two sisters, Sally Bruso of Massachusetts and Christine Charette of Washington; a brother, Bruce Nelson of Lyon Mountain; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Frederick Dale Nelson; three brothers, Stewart, Thomas and Mike Nelson; and a sister, Diane Crosby.
