Colia’s Obituary Greer, SC On the evening of February 4th, 2020, at 7:00 pm, God sent his angel to 208 Harris Street in Greer, SC to bring his servant home. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great‐grandmother, aunt, cousin, sister‐in‐law, friend and Christian. Colia Edwards Sullivan was the daughter of the late John Wesley Edwards and Allie Johnson Edwards, born on April 19, 1926 in Lynchburg, South Carolina. She was proceeded in death by 10 of her siblings: Willoweas, Flossie, Elmer, Achious, Carl, Longfellow, Opheila, Ethel and Zenobia. Colia Edwards Sullivan committed her life to Christ at an early age. She had a total commitment to the cause of Christ; walking with purpose along the path of faith, hope, and love for the cause of Christ. She showed love to all people in her family and her community. She received her early education in the Sumter County Public School system. She completed requirements and graduated from Morris College in Sumter, SC in only three years with high honors, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. Colia completed graduate studies at LaVerne University in California and at Furman University in Greenville, SC. She received her Master’s Degree of Education from LaVerne University. She was a retired school‐teacher whose wide variety of teaching experiences and influence enhanced the South Carolina School System for thirty‐five years. She taught at Nicholtown Elementary, John Street Elementary, Duke Street Elementary and Buena Vista Elementary School. Her students loved her! On February 14, 1953, Colia Sullivan married her love, Reverend Charles Newton Sullivan. He affectionally called her his “Sweets.” From their union, they were the proud parents of three daughters, six grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren were born. Colia was a member of Maple Creek Baptist Church in Greer, SC for many years. She served as a Sunday school teacher and church musician for many years. She also supported her husband in ministry and was the most exemplary first lady. She helped raise congregations and lead souls to Christ at Gowdeysville Baptist Church in Gaffney, SC and at New Hope Baptist Church in Greer, SC. Later in life, she went to support her grandchildren in ministry at Today’s Antioch Fellowship, Greer, SC. She served as a Sunday school teacher and was cherished as the church mother and advisor by everyone. She served the community through various organizations. Colia was the Worthy Matron of Moore’s #180 O.E.S., President of Greenville and Vicinity Interdenominational Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widows Alliance, and an Advisory Council member of the Greenville Hospital System. She also delivered Meals on Wheels. Those who love, miss, and will forever cherish her are; her three daughters, Marva (Dennis) Williams of Greer, Charlene (Danny) Davis of Charlotte, NC, and Belinda (James) Floyd of Greenville, SC; her six grandchildren; Marsha (Nyroba) Leamon of Greer, SC; Joy (Anthony) Fair of New York, NY; Joshua (Charyl) Davis of Charlotte, NC; Mia (Anthony) Belcher of Simpsonville, SC; Erie (Anji) Williams of Simpsonville, SC; and James Floyd III of Mauldin, SC; her thirteen great grandchildren, Tony Belcher, Abijah Leamon, Drake Belcher, Israel Leamon, Jaida Williams, Jordin Floyd, Cole Fair, Zoe Williams, Jaydin Davis, Reed Fair, Charli Williams, Carysn Davis, and Titan Floyd. Three sisters, Rosa Lee Scott of Columbia, SC, Earlene Hayes of Chicago, IL, and Eula E. Fulton of Lake City, SC. Two brothers, John Wesley, Jr. of Lake City, SC and Waymon (Rea) Edwards of Florence, SC. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones and friends. Caregivers, Earlene Browning ‐ Comfort Keepers, Gail Dawkins, Loretta Horton Spartanburg Home Health and Kindred Hospice. We will never forget the love and support that she showed to all of us! Visitation service will be Saturday, February 8, 2020 5:00 PM until 7:00PM at Sullivan Bros. Mortuary Chapel; with funeral service Sunday, February 9, 2020 2:00PM at Maple Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Greer, SC. Burial will take place in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
