Obituary Carolyn Mae Edwards Carolyn Mae Edwards, age 88, of North Versailles, died on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. Born June 20, 1931 she was the daughter of the late Byron P. and Verna R. Imler. Carolyn was the loving wife of the late David J. Edwards for 58 years and proud matriarch of her family: 13 children: David J. (Marsha) Edwards, Patricia (John) Hoke, Daniel B. (Janet) Edwards, Dale J. (Mary) Edwards, Carol (Gary) Sudyk , Frances (Robert) Hollis, Roselyn Schmidt, Eva (Dave) Bruck, Donald C. (Carolyn) Edwards, Douglas V. (Pamela) Edwards, Noreen (James) Dodds, D. Sean (Jennifer) Edwards, and Dennis P. (Danielle) Edwards; 46 grandchildren and 55 great grandchildren. Carolyn was a faithful and loving servant of the Lord and that was the foundation of her devotion to her family and her service to her church and her community. A member of St Robert Bellarmine Church for 70 years, she was active in the Ladies of Charity, Christian Women (president), and Youth Group. She was recognized in 2009 with the Diocese of Pittsburgh Manifesting the Kingdom Award. While raising her 7 sons and 6 daughters, Carolyn became an active volunteer for both the boy and girl scout programs in her community serving both for over 60 years. As a volunteer for the Girl Scouts, she was a troop leader, troop consultant, day camp director, council trainer, council nominating committee (chair), and on the Catholic Committee on Scouting. She was known as “Mother Nature” throughout the area. Carolyn received numerous recognitions for her dedication including the Girl Scout Thanks Badge, St. Anne and Bronze Pelican Medals. Working with Boy Scout Troop 85, Carolyn served as President of the Mothers’ Club, Troop Committee Chair, and merit badge counselor. She used the extraordinary organizing abilities assist the troop in planning awards programs, Eagle banquets and various special activities. She was honored with the St. George Emblem, named Troop 85 Eagle Sponsor for the 20th Eagle Presentation in 1988 and to the Troop 85 Hall of Fame in 2003. In addition, Carolyn was a member and former president of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Military Order of the Purple Heart (McKeesport Chapter), a charter member and former president of the North Versailles Central Volunteer Firemen’s Auxiliary and the recipient of the 1988 Spirit of Hometown Award from the Turtle Creek Valley MHMR. In 2010, at the age of 79, Carolyn fulfilled a life-long dream earning a Bachelor of Arts and Letters at Penn State Greater Allegheny. Her energy seemed limitless, her enthusiasm for life contagious, and a capacity to give infinite. She loved to tell a good story, plan big parties, ride big roller coasters, and teach every baby to sing “Itsy Bitsy Spider”. Every time she left you, “I Love you” and “God bless you” was being called out. She loved life and everyone loved her. Friends will be received at Alfieri Funeral Home Inc. 201 Marguerite Ave., Wilmerding, 15148, 412-824-4332, on Saturday, February 29, from 5 pm to 8 pm, Sunday, March 1 from 1pm to 8 pm. Services will be in the funeral home on Monday, March 2 at 9:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St Robert Bellarmine Church at 10am. Entombment will follow at St Joseph Cemetery.
