Bessie’s Obituary Bessie M. Day, 84, of Spotsylvania, VA, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2020, at Spotsylvania Regional Hospital. Arrangements are being handled by A. L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home. Bessie M. Day was born on June 17, 1935, in Lignum, Virginia to Bessie F. Ellis and Walter Ellis. She departed this life on February 23, 2020, at Spotsylvania Regional Hospital at the age of 84. Bessie resided in Washington D.C. and New York for years. She worked in retail and other professions in both cities for many years to take care of her family. She reunited her membership with Ebenezer when she returned home to care for her mother in Lignum, Virginia. She was steadfast in her belief in the Lord throughout her life. Bessie was married early on in her life to Alexander Miles, Jr., (Sonnie). She spent the rest of her latter days happy and content with her second husband, Alvin Day. As she progressed in life she would worship and watch evangelist TV programs religiously, since she was unable to travel due to her illness. She was presently residing with her husband Alvin and daughter Theresa in Fredericksburg, Va. Her family lovingly cared for her at home. Bessie was loved by everyone who met her. She was dearly loved and very devoted to her children, grandchildren, and family. Her kindness and loving nature were admired by friends. She loved to cook and was exceptional at every meal she prepared. Her specialty was rice pudding. Left to cherish her memories are her husband Alvin Day of the home; her son Lawrence Miles (Bernardine) of Fredericksburg; two daughters, Theresa Bradley of Fredericksburg, Va., and Sheena Doreen Holmes (Daniel) of Unionville Va.; and Julia Miles, who was like a daughter to her. She is also survived by three grandchildren Melissa Moorer (Darnelle Miller, fiancĂ©) of Fredericksburg Va., D.J. Holmes (special friend Sarah Thompson) of Unionville, Va., and Patrice Gill (Lloyd) of Henrico, Va.; eight great-grandchildren, Amari, Imani, and Amir of Fredericksburg, Darius, and Mya Of Unionville Va., and Satira, Janiyah, and Isaiah of Henrico Va.; two nieces, Bettie Lou Turner and Ethel Wilson; three nephews, Roy Holmes, Howard Robinson, and Billy York; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and close, devoted friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Causie D. and Stacey Ellis; five sisters, Mary Jane Woods, Lucille Holmes, Idena Ellis, Flossie York and Verline Lewis; one daughter, Lucille Moorer; and one granddaughter, Sheena Taiesha Moorer of Fredericksburg, Va. We will forever remember her laugh, smile, cooking and upbeat spirit. Although she is no longer with us, she has left us a multitude of memories that will warm our hearts again and again. God plucked the perfect flower and we all wait for the time when we enter the gates of Heaven and see her smiling again.
