Obituary Alfred Hugh Lattimore, 88, of Rutherfordton, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2020. He was born in Rutherford County on July 18, 1931, the son of the late James Thomas and Mary Kate Lynch Lattimore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving stepmother, Nell Eplee Lattimore, brothers James Thomas Lattimore II and John William “Bill” Lattimore, and sisters Doris Lattimore Crawford and Marjorie Lattimore McClure. Left to cherish and honor his memory are his wife of more than 63 years, Reba Ann Robinson Lattimore; his children, June Lattimore Breckinridge and husband Bill, of N. Charleston, S.C., Glen Lattimore and wife Brenda of Riegelwood, N.C., Nicole Carr and husband Deane of Statesville, N.C., and his dear nephew Doug Lattimore of Rutherfordton, whom he considers a son; brothers Frank Lattimore and wife Betty and Charles Lattimore and wife Kathy of Rutherfordton and Steve Lattimore and wife Margie of Buchanan, Va.; grandchildren Jessica Breckinridge Smith and husband Yeadon of Summerville, S.C., Eric Breckinridge of Austin, Texas, Nadia Miller of Boone, N.C., Noah Carr of Statesville, N.C., Jonathan Carr of Oakboro, N.C., and four great-grandchildren, William, Phineas, Oliver, and Eleanor Smith. Additional survivors include several cousins, including Dave Lattimore and lifetime partner Tammy Henson of Idaho, with whom he was especially close, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Hugh attended Green Hill Elementary School and R.S. Central High School. After graduating from N.C. State College of Agricultural Engineering, he served in the U.S. Army for two years. After his honorable discharge, Hugh spent the next 11 years working for International Harvester Company, followed by 28 years with various divisions of James Enterprises and its succeeding owners. Upon his retirement, he moved back to his family’s homeplace and spent a few years working part time for Hardin Trucking and Rutherford County Solid Waste at the Bill’s Creek and Green Hill Convenience Centers. Since returning to the Green Hill Community in 1994, Hugh has been a member of Green Hill Baptist Church, and prior to that was a longtime member of Faith Baptist Church in Statesville. He was a very active member at Faith, having served on the deacon board, which he also chaired at various times, taught Sunday School, served as the Sunday School superintendent, served as a member of the finance committee and the building committee, which he chaired at times, and served as the building fund treasurer for many years. Hugh joined the Masons 1967 and Gideon’s International in the 1970s, serving several years as treasurer, and he was a former member of Shriner’s International. The funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock on Friday, February 28, 2020 at Green Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Terry Brooks, and Reverend Matthew Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 o’clock prior to the service in the Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043 or your local hospice organization, Shriners Hospitals for Children, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or other children’s hospitals.
